Biography

Anne-Marie Bremner began her journey in waste management at Bedfordshire County Council, working in the holidays. She was out on site and in the lab, assessing compliance and emissions on the largest landfill sites in the UK. After achieving both a degree and a PhD in Environmental Chemistry, she developed a passion for reducing waste and the impact it has on our planet.

Her previous experience includes:

  • Policy Officer for WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) responsible for organisation-wide project evaluation and cross-material policy guidance

  • Project Coordinator for the G8 Renewable Energy Task Force (Genoa, 2000; directly reporting to Chair, Sir Mark Moody-Stuart - then CEO of Shell)

  • Senior Project Coordinator, Waste for WA State Government (Western Australia)

  • Board Member on the Western Australian Waste Authority, guiding the State Waste Strategy and budget

  • Director of specialist waste consultancy, Encycle Consulting for 15 years (Australia) Driving the development of Waste Management Plans and innovative solutions on major construction projects and commercial buildings and institutions.

Anne-Marie’s project experience spans the operation and construction of large commercial buildings and institutions including major stadiums, universities, shopping complexes, hotels and residential developments. She has consulted to major developers and Property Mangers such as Brookfield Multiplex, Jones Lang LaSalle, and Knight Frank, and also to local and national governments on design and operation of effective waste systems, policy development, carbon accounting and waste management system upgrades.

Key areas of expertise include waste data analysis, research, recycling system design, waste management planning and feasibility studies for innovative projects. Anne-Marie has worked across projects including material recycling, composting/food waste, novel research, communication, training, and behaviour change.

Anne-Marie brings 15 years experience of setting up and running a consulting business; understanding commercial realities and practical hurdles involved in project implementation, combined with her academic scientific research training to ask the right questions and drive clear, well thought through solutions.
